a drink of water

105 degrees here (110 downtown), the first 105 degrees in recorded history joolie says
about the bay area
where she sits in her room in front of a fan with ice water nearby
and i want to write her a poem
for a lifetime
of exhaustion
but for now i just supply
the bungee jumping jokes

usually, when my mother was in a really good mood, i knew something wasn’t ok
it’s a shitty way to relate to someone
she says about all the terribleness/trauma
of her mother’s
and navigating the bi-polarness and dementia and early alzheimer’s
through the medical/mental health industrial complex
she couldn’t coordinate language anymore
she couldn’t even swallow and all she wanted
was a drink of water
