molten and lifting up off horizon
as seen through the skeletons of trees
from a 2nd floor window,
today’s magnificent sun

for the night ahead

after days of sickness
his body is now carried off
to the walk-in

really enjoy emory says from the couch
while the rest of us circle around dinner
our hangouts

how the gathering flames curl and roll
over themselves like a wave cresting
as i peer into the big firebrick-lined furnace
whose fire i started log cabin style with the flair necessary
for it all to fit in the narrow long space
