how she hears

the first time i cry today
it is when cynthia says
in the presence of the group
how she hears something about giving importance
and attention to spaces and experiences (aesthetics-wise)
to which i say yes,
yes, i want to live
a beautiful life
in beautifully-made/kept spaces
the second time i cry
it’s the pungence of our small
but powerful onions
rising up from the butcher block
where i slice them across the way
from molly who washes and chops
the not yet frost-damaged
thyme and oregano

moonstar the cat lethargic and
sway-walking with a limp
but what is even more concerning
is the lack of purring
when i hold her
which is so unlike herself

in the window-shaped squares
of sun falling into
the living room
dust dancing up from
the dried tepary plants as i
pluck dried pods off
the hankey (dotted with peppermint and
levender oil) i wear
across my face due to the
smoke inhalation situation
