weeds in the spearmint patch
calling me in to stop and pluck

for a while in the day warming
a sunny distraction
a satisfying distraction
a spearmint scent infused distraction

sewing together a new book
how, despite the to do list,
i let me allow myself this

two sheet trays of tyler pizza
with dan mozerella
set out on butcher block alongside
spinach salad and sunsoy dressing
and kraut still good but getting soft

fermenty yeasty smell as i walk past
of broom corn stalks decomposing in piles
alongside the cistern and near
the building named karma

emory asking me if i want a bowl
of his cereal and then offering
to bring me a slice of watermelon
after dinner and how we talk about
jack’s limpy back foot

me peanut gallerying/commentating
from the tub
(only bath i have ever taken here in my 3 years)
as hillary and donald score A+’s
in the disappointment department
as the second debate airs on the computer
in the office across the hallway
