bring it humming

dear san diego/january
it’s too early for spring
but you still bring it humming
in my bones

_______

york hall
room 4050 A
during the go-round
when asked to share three words about
one’s relationhship to writing
the first student says:
i
hate
writing
to which we all laugh and i say
thank you for your honesty
i can’t fix that
but we can work on that together

_______

perhaps the most perplexing overheard patch of conversation i’ve heard in a while
she says:
i told connor i was waking up with this beautiful naked woman
next to me and i thought ‘this sucks
it really really sucks’

_______

liz losh
shows us
one way to start  a 200-student lecture class
(blast music themed to the weeks topic
this week it’s: this song)
the abrupt ending of the loud sound
more effective than shushing the room

_______

i’m a product of the punk rock era
she says
late 40’s
in tight-ish black pants
and i’m pretty sure at least the blue-haired kid and myself
are smiling

_______

alex and i moon-roll east
and while we laughed good and hard on the shuttle bus
about transforming a conference poster about transportation engineering
into a corvette/firebird/?
with handouts in the glove compartment
and the radio tuned to  a transportation talk/speech/presentation
we laugh even harder when upon opening the front door
loud live music channels down the stairs
(stand up bass, guitar, and another stringed instrument)
to greet us
